3.12.1 July Release

July was another monster release shipping MANY new Frontier AI Models (Fable, Sonnet 5, GLM, Meta Muse Spark) and a fleet of new and powerful Skills.

Sapience 3.12.1 — July Release Notes

The Short Version

💡

Below, you’ll find human-wrtten release notes. For a MUCH COOLER view of the same material, built with the Sapience website skill go here. Sapience created that, and frankly, its much better than our work below!

A month of heavy lifting on the three things you touch most: Skills, Files, and Voice.

  • Major — Eight new expert Skills (Deep Research, Financial Models, Strategy Advisor, PRD, Editor, Email Drafter, Data Storytelling, Team of Agents), plus a reorganized skill picker with categories and search. Browse everything in the AI Store.
  • Major — The file system got a ground-up overhaul: every file now lives in exactly one place, one "Move…" action works everywhere, folders upload and download whole (notes included), and Files & Notes now live together inside every project.
  • Major — Dictation everywhere: a new Web Dictate Mode in the browser, push-to-talk (hold Alt) in chat, and instant desktop dictation.
  • New AI models same-day/week:
    • Anthropic Fable 5 (and Mythos for orgs with access): the best AI model on earth right now.
    • Claude Sonnet 5: Anthropic’s new work-horse and now the model used by default in the Sapience Agent. It’s smart, fast and great.
    • Open AI GPT-5.6 Sol: Open AI’s newest Frontier reasoning model.
    • Open AI GPT-5.6 Terra: Open AI’s newest daily workhorse. Powers ChatGPT.com.
    • DeepSeek V4 Pro: One of the more popular open source models from China.
    • GLM-5.2: Another Chinese model making headlines.
    • Meta Muse Spark 1.1: Facebooks new Agentic power-house. Is great.
    • Open AI Realtime Voice 2.1: Selectable under Voice Settings. Smarter, but not as friendly.

New Features & Their Docs Page

💡

We shipped a lot of stuff. Too much to do on this one page 🙂 Each of these pages below have detailed on some of the new goodies where they deserve a separate write-up.

  • AGENTS.md Support: If you’re using AGENTS.md with any other AI system, or CLAUDE.md, then this feature is for you. Read more here.
  • Sapience Built-in (Global) Skills: New help page re: Global Skills—part KB article, part marketing—describes all our powerful skills in one place. Read more here.
  • Connected Apps Overview: want to get started having Sapience drive all your external apps? Read how here.
  • Group Chat In Projects: ideal for when you’re doing meaty Project work and want others to be able to see. Read more here.
  • Attach Any Resource to Chat: already got a “thing” in Sapience? A file, a note, a task, whatever… you can “attach” it directly to any Agent and any Chat now. Read more here.
  • Team of Agents: want to coordinate an Agent “swarm” or Team of Agents? We created a skill that bakes in best practices and makes it easy. Read how to use it here.
  • “Email me”: most execs still use and love email. Sapience can email work directly to your inbox, including attachments. Learn more here.
  • Fifty Shades of Voice in Sapience: want to understand when to use Dictation versus Write with Voice versus Voice Mode? Read this article.
  • Advanced Diagrams (“goodbye Miro & Msft Visio”): anyone who’s tried to draw diagrams in PowerPoint or Word know how weak it is. That’s why tools like Miro and Visio exist. But we believe they should not exist. Powerful diagramming is table-stakes for a good editor. Even “modern” editors like Notion struggle/abdicate on this. So, we have built an advanced diagramming tool right into Sapience Notes that is a major upgrade over the standard white boards. Read bout how to turn it on and use it here.
  • Plan Mode Is Something You REALLY SHOULD try: for those that haven’t used Plan Mode, you’re missing out on one of Sapience’s best tools for serious work. No matter what Agent you’re in, it will escalate to the best AI model on earth to build a sequenced plan of all the steps an Agent should take to fulfil the task you’ve given it, and then manages the Agent you’re driving to ensure that the work is completed per the plan. Read more here.

🧰 New Skills & the AI Store

💡

IMPORTANT: There were so many new skills in July that there’s a dedicated page for them! This (below) is a summary. For details, this page has a deep dive into each.

  • NEW — Deep Research — investigates a topic across many independent, credible sources and publishes a synthesized, fully cited report. Now available to everyone, and it automatically switches the agent into full long-form report mode (2,000+ words) for that turn. (API 2026.07.08)
  • NEW — Data Storytelling — turns raw data into a persuasive narrative with the key insights up front. Now available to everyone. (API 2026.07.08)
  • NEW — Financial Models — builds a genuine Excel workbook with DCF, sensitivity, scenario, and Monte Carlo analyses. Also made markedly more reliable — no more minutes-long hangs. (API 2026.07.09)
  • NEW — Strategy Advisor — applies established frameworks (SWOT, Porter's Five Forces, matrices) to your strategic question. (API 2026.07.09)
  • NEW — PRD Writer — interviews you first, then writes a rigorous, testable Product Requirements Document and publishes it as a report. (API 2026.07.09)
  • NEW — Editor — refines existing text for polish, correctness, and conciseness while preserving your voice. (API 2026.07.09)
  • NEW — Email Drafter — drafts professional, targeted messages and can send them straight to your inbox. (API 2026.07.09)
  • NEW — Team of Agents — structures a multi-agent team run: the agent proposes a plan, you approve it, then it coordinates the specialists. (API 2026.06.22)
  • Skill picker, reorganized — skills are now grouped by category with a fly-out menu and type-to-filter search, replacing one long flat list. (Apps 2026.07.08)
  • Skills can set the response depth for one turn — e.g. Deep Research answers in "detailed" mode for that message without you changing any settings. (API|Apps 2026.07.08)
  • Skills can require Plan Mode — a skill author can declare that a skill always starts with a reviewable plan you approve before work begins. (API 2026.07.05)
  • 🔒 Enterprise-only skills — a skill can be flagged Enterprise-only: everyone can see it and read what it does, but using it on a lower plan shows an upgrade prompt. (API|Apps 2026.07.09)

🤖 Agent Improvements

  • NEW — Agents can email your teammates — an agent can look up people in your organization and, with your OK, send them an email — not just email you. (API 2026.07.05)
  • The agent now offers to use your connected apps — if you've connected Gmail, Outlook, Notion, Dropbox, LinkedIn, or Google Drive, the agent proactively suggests them ("Want me to email this summary to your team via Gmail?") — always asking first, never acting on its own. (API 2026.06.19)
  • Every agent can now revise files, not just create them — file editing is on by default for all agents, so "fix the intro of that report" edits the report instead of creating a duplicate copy. (API 2026.06.15–18)
  • Agents can move and copy files for you on request. (API 2026.06.17)
  • Faster complex agent work — agents use near-instant scratch files for notes, plans, and drafts mid-task, which noticeably speeds up multi-step and team-of-agents runs. (API 2026.06.27)
  • See how hard the agent worked — conversations now record how many steps and tool calls the agent used to answer you. (API 2026.07.10)
  • Advanced coding sandbox for every agent — the full "run code like a developer" environment is now on by default for all agents, and a new fast Python tool handles quick jobs (like crunching a CSV) without the heavyweight setup. (API 2026.07.09; API 2026.06.13 ◐)
  • One-click chat with any project from the New Chat browser — a new "Projects" section jumps you straight into a full-screen chat with that project's agent. (Apps 2026.07.06)
  • Agent list polish — scope badges show whether an agent is personal, org-wide, or global; the refresh button genuinely refreshes; tooltips render properly. (Apps 2026.07.06–07)
  • ✅ @-mentioning a different agent mid-chat now actually switches who answers — previously the name changed but the old agent kept responding. (Apps 2026.06.26)
  • ✅ Plan Mode no longer under-sells itself — while planning, the agent used to claim it couldn't generate images or edit files even though it gains those tools on approval; it now tells you the truth. (API 2026.06.23)

🔌 Connected Apps (Self Service)

  • NEW — HubSpot — agents can search, create, and update HubSpot contacts, deals, notes, and tasks on your behalf. (API 2026.07.10)
  • NEW — Google Drive (now full-featured), Google Docs, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams. (Apps 2026.07.11)
  • Connected Apps for all Power Users — no longer limited to internal environments. (Apps 2026.06.14)
  • ✅ No more false "connection failed" — connecting Google Sheets (and friends) used to flash a red error even when it worked. (Apps 2026.07.09)

💬 Chat

  • NEW — Stop, Edit, Retry, and Bookmark — stop a response mid-generation, edit and resend an earlier message, regenerate an answer, and bookmark messages for quick navigation. Copy now works on your own messages too. (Apps 2026.06.20)
  • NEW — Keep typing while the agent works — messages you send while the agent is busy now queue and deliver automatically, instead of a "please wait" block. (Apps 2026.06.15)
  • Conversations name themselves — new chats get an automatic name and summary, and older ones showing "No AI Generated Summary yet" are healed in the background. (API 2026.07.02)
  • Project agents remember prior conversations — a project's agent now surfaces what you (and collaborators) previously discussed with it, and can pull up a past conversation when relevant. (API 2026.07.02)
  • Web-research citations are now clickable footnote pills instead of raw reference markers. (API|Apps 2026.07.07)
  • Conversation Info panel — created/updated dates, owner, agent, summary, and a copyable conversation ID. (Apps 2026.06.13 ◐)
  • Attach anything you own — the "attach an existing file" picker now reaches every file and note, including ones filed inside projects. (Apps 2026.06.23)
  • ✅ Long-conversation reliability — the agent could "forget" its available skills and connected apps in very long chats (now preserved), and attaching large files could eventually break a conversation (now fixed). (API 2026.07.05; API 2026.07.01)

📁 Files — the big overhaul

The file system was rebuilt this month around one principle: a file lives in exactly one place. (API|Apps 2026.06.17–20)

  • One home per file — no more files appearing in several folders at once; every file shows its real location and full clickable path. (API|Apps 2026.06.20)
  • One "Move…" everywhere — files, folders, notes, and projects all move and copy through the same picker, now also on right-click, with an escape hatch to reach any destination and the real reason shown when a move fails. (Apps 2026.06.28; API 2026.06.21)
  • Move whole folders — an entire folder (with everything in it) moves in one action; anything can also move or copy to your top level. (API 2026.06.20; API 2026.06.27)
  • NEW — Upload an entire folder into a project from the "+ Add" menu. (Apps 2026.07.04)
  • NEW — Right-click Download for folders — notes included — downloads preserve the folder tree, and notes now come along with the files. (Apps 2026.06.30)
  • Noticeably faster — the file browser loads much faster on accounts with lots of shared files (seconds, not tens of seconds), and uploads no longer wait on the AI summary. (API 2026.06.13 ◐; Apps 2026.07.01–02)
  • NEW — Preview spreadsheets in the browser — .xlsx and .csv open right in Sapience with search and multi-sheet support. (Apps 2026.06.14)
  • NEW — JSON files preview as a collapsible tree with search, expand/collapse-all, and hover-to-copy. (Apps 2026.07.01–02)
  • Faithful Office previews — PowerPoint, Word, and Excel render as true-to-format previews instead of a text dump. (API 2026.06.23)
  • NEW — Images inside files and notes are now understood — screenshots and diagrams pasted into notes or embedded in PDF/Word/PowerPoint/Excel are automatically described, so search and summaries finally see them. (API 2026.07.10)
  • Agents can save more file types — .json, .py, .yaml, .sql and many other text formats, beyond the old short list. (API 2026.06.26)
  • Unified Delete — one delete action cleanly handles mixed selections of files, notes, folders, and projects, notifies owners when someone else removes their content, and "Remove from Project" now offers a clear "move out vs delete" choice. (API 2026.06.28; Apps 2026.06.27)
  • File Version on the info card. (Apps 2026.07.08)

📋 Notes

  • Advanced Diagrams (“goodbye Miro & Microsoft Visio”): anyone who’s tried to draw diagrams in PowerPoint or Word know how weak it is.
  • Resizable images in notes, an "Edit Note" quick action, and a proper menu on note cards on mobile. (Apps 2026.07.06)
  • Fullscreen toggle and copyable Note ID in the note viewer. (Apps 2026.07.01)
  • Right-click Rename, click-to-preview, and editing from the preview stays in the preview. (Apps 2026.06.21)
  • Toolbar and title stay pinned while you scroll long notes. (Apps 2026.06.17)
  • Desktop spell-check suggestions — right-click a squiggle to get corrections. (Apps 2026.07.07)
  • ✅ Summarize works on every note — notes containing pasted screenshots or audio clips no longer fail to summarize or crash the chat. (API 2026.07.07; API 2026.06.29)

📅 Projects

  • Files & Notes, together — every project now opens to a combined "Files & Notes" tab (the old separate tabs remain as an opt-in setting). (Apps 2026.06.19–20)
  • NEW — "Task" and "Meeting" in the global New menu — add a task to any project, or start a meeting, from anywhere. (Apps 2026.07.08)
  • Templates that actually share — global templates are visible to everyone, org templates to the whole org, and "Save as Template" no longer fails on projects containing files. (Apps 2026.06.22; Apps 2026.07.07; API 2026.06.21)
  • Quick Stats are shortcuts — the project stat boxes now jump you to Team, Files, or Tasks. (Apps 2026.06.26)
  • "Back to Project" returns you to the exact tab you left. (Apps 2026.07.06)
  • Instant moves — moving tasks, goals, or files inside a project updates immediately, without a full reload. (Apps 2026.06.17)

🎤 Voice & Dictation

  • NEW — Web Dictate Mode — desktop-style dictation in the browser: a floating widget listens, transcribes, and copies the text to your clipboard (Alt+D). (Apps 2026.06.16; shortcut Apps 2026.06.19)
  • NEW — Push-to-talk in chat — hold Alt, speak, release: your words appear in the chat box. (Apps 2026.07.06–08)
  • Instant desktop dictation — Alt+D now transcribes on the spot without uploading or saving a recording, cutting seconds off every use. (Apps 2026.07.08)
  • Voice chat works behind strict corporate networks — realtime voice now automatically falls back to a relay connection when a company firewall blocks the direct path, with a small notice when it happens. (Apps 2026.07.03)
  • ✅ Voice polish — the desktop voice agent no longer goes silent after its first use; greetings are shorter and session-aware; and it finally pronounces "Sapience" correctly. (Apps 2026.06.13 ◐; Apps 2026.07.04)

🖥️ Sapience Desktop

  • Quick Chat opens in its own focused window — instead of taking over whatever you had open — and now defaults to the main Sapience agent. (Apps 2026.07.05; Apps 2026.07.11)
  • Updates install themselves — desktop updates now download in the background, install silently, and relaunch — no more 3-click installer wizard, no more stale versions. (Apps 2026.06.19; Apps 2026.06.28; Apps 2026.07.08–10)

🔗 Sharing

  • Share modal upgrades — an access-level column, a "Revoke Access" action on the Users list, clearer errors, and sharing details that survive a refresh. (Apps 2026.07.06)
  • Sharing big projects is ~13× faster — a 90-file project now shares in under 3 seconds instead of ~37. (API 2026.06.11 ◐)
  • Share recipients can duplicate a shared note — previously owner-only. (Apps 2026.06.14)
  • ✅ Files linked inside a shared note now open for the people you shared the note with. (API 2026.07.05)
  • ✅ Shared-project reliability — collaborators could miss a project's files (seeing only notes), promotions to project admin could leave someone stuck read-only, and share links crashed on filenames with special characters. All fixed. (API 2026.06.26; Apps 2026.06.20; API 2026.06.25)

✉️ Email & Deliverability

  • Sapience email now comes from sapiencehq.com — many enterprise filters block .ai domains; agent and notification email now arrives from a .com address instead. (API 2026.07.05–06)
  • The app is also reachable at sapiencehq.com if your company blocks .ai sites. (API 2026.07.05)
  • Owners are notified by email when someone removes their file from a shared project (it moves safely to their root — nothing is deleted). (API 2026.06.27)

🏢 Organizations & Enterprise

  • NEW — Child-organization self-signup — a signup link can let a new user create their own sub-organization (name + access code) and become its admin in one step. (API|Apps 2026.06.18)
  • Child orgs inherit parent agents and skills — anything the parent org marks shareable shows up automatically downstream. (API 2026.06.15; fix API 2026.06.23)
  • 🔒 Per-org "no global content" option — an organization can hide all global agents/skills and curate its own set. (API 2026.07.07)
  • Skill instructions are protected — end users can use a shared or global skill but can no longer read or copy its underlying prompt. (API|Apps 2026.07.08)

📅 Meetings

  • The notetaker asks to be let in — if the meeting bot is stuck in a waiting room, you get a push notification, in-app alert, and email prompting you to admit it — the #1 cause of "my meeting produced no notes." (API 2026.06.17)
  • Meeting notes publish reliably — a safety net re-processes any recording whose notes didn't arrive. (API 2026.06.12 ◐)

🔑 Other Helpful Stuff

  • Reports and exports render charts properly — diagrams and interactive charts now appear correctly in published notes, PDF exports, and Word exports. (API 2026.06.21)
  • Announcement banner + announcement emails — Sapience can now post an in-app banner and send platform-wide announcement email (used for these very release notes and tips). (API 2026.06.17; API 2026.07.07; Apps 2026.06.15)
  • Bigger accounts load fully — list/tree views now load up to 10,000 items before truncating (was 5,000). (API 2026.06.14)

🐞 Notable fixes

  • ✅ Login/logout can no longer hang forever on a grey screen. (Apps 2026.06.13 ◐)
  • ✅ Browser file uploads failing outright for some users — a high-volume bug — fixed. (API 2026.06.14)
  • ✅ Files appearing/disappearing — uploaded files vanishing until refresh, sub-folder files duplicated at project root, edits kicking a file out of its folder, drag-and-drop uploads not becoming AI-searchable, and email attachments disappearing from the Email Attachments folder. All fixed. (API|Apps 2026.06.14–25)
  • ✅ Bulk actions act on your whole selection — bulk delete/move/add-to-project no longer silently skip notes and folders, and right-click delete respects multi-select. (Apps 2026.06.13 ◐; Apps 2026.06.22)
  • ✅ Arabic and other non-English CSVs no longer open garbled in Excel. (API 2026.06.23)
  • ✅ PDF/Word export hangs and empty-conversation export errors fixed. (API 2026.06.25; API 2026.07.03)
  • ✅ iPad/iPhone scrolling and touch drag fixed across Files and list views. (Apps 2026.06.11 ◐)

🧑‍💻 For Developers — the new Sapience Resource Manager (SRM) API

One polymorphic Sapience Resource Manager API now handles files, folders, notes, and projects uniformly:

  • SRM Tree — one call returns your whole resource tree (or any subtree), and the web app's file views now read through it. (API 2026.07.01–07; Apps 2026.07.01–02)
  • SRM Move / Copy — move or copy any resource kind, in batches, including to root. (API 2026.06.19–27)
  • SRM Delete — polymorphic cascading delete with a clear protocol for content you don't own. (API 2026.06.28)
  • SRM Summarize — summarize-and-persist for any resource kind. (API 2026.07.07)
