Team Chats (Multiple Humans & Agents)

This is a killer feature many users overlook. Sapience is all about TEAMS.

Team Chat β€” One Room, Your People and Your Agents

Last Updated: 2026.08.08

Overview

Most of the time you chat one-on-one with an agent. Team Chat is the other mode: one room, and you decide who is in it β€” teammates, agents, or both.

The room can be all agents and no people. You are the only human, you pick exactly which agents join, and you direct them by name. That is the shape most executives settle into: a standing room of the specialists you rely on, ready whenever the work needs more than one of them.

Team Chat is live for every Sapience account.

Team Chat vs Team of Agents

These two get confused constantly, so it is worth being precise.

  • A Team of Agents is what happens under the hood whenever several agents work together. It is usually coordinated by an orchestrating agent, and it happens automatically β€” ask any agent for something off the web and you will watch it phone a friend and call the Web Research Agent. You do not set this up.
  • A Team Chat is a room you deliberately create and staff. You choose the members, you see everything each of them says, and you address them by name.

A Super Agent is the bridge between the two: it is tuned to marshal a Team of Agents on your behalf, and it is very much at home inside a Team Chat.

Starting a Team Chat

There are three ways in:

  1. The New menu, then Group Chat
  1. The Alt+G keyboard shortcut
  1. From within a project's Conversations

The create dialog gives you a search box for people and a search box for agents, plus a selected tray showing everyone added so far, so a long roster stays manageable. Add only agents if you want an agents-only room.

When the room opens it explains its own rules β€” who is in it, and how the agents in it decide when to answer.

How Turn-Taking Works

  • Agents answer when they are addressed. @-tag the agent you want and it replies; the others stay quiet. That stops a room of five specialists becoming five simultaneous answers.
  • Agents can tell your people apart. Each message is attributed to whoever actually sent it, so an agent picking up a thread knows who said what.
  • The team leader is marked. The agent that owns the conversation carries a (TL) tag and is listed first in the header.
  • The header describes the room, not one arbitrarily chosen member β€” it reads like "Group: 2 Agents, 3 People" and lists everyone present.

Working With Other People in the Room

  • Up to 30 people in a single room.
  • Unread badges on each conversation in the sidebar, an overall unread count, and a sortable Unread column in All Conversations.
  • Reactions on any message.
  • Files and images shared in the room stay in the room, for everyone β€” what you paste or attach is visible to every participant, not just you.
  • Replies stream in live for everyone, including when someone cancels a turn.

Good to Know

  • Agents-only rooms are a first-class use case, not a workaround. If you are the only human in the room, that is exactly how it is meant to work.
  • The room persists. It is a real conversation, so you can return to it, rename it, and find it later in All Conversations.
  • Bring in the wider org. You are not limited to a project's current members when choosing people.

Summary

Team Chat gives you a room where your people and your agents work in the same thread. Start it from New β†’ Group Chat or with Alt+G, search for the people and agents you want, and address an agent by name when you want it to answer. Staff it with agents alone and you have a standing team of specialists, with you as the only human in the room.
