Managing Agent Memory

You have total control over what Sapience remembers.

Managing Your Memories

Last Updated: 2026.07.07

Overview

As you work with Sapience, its agents can remember useful things about you — facts, preferences, and standing instructions — so you don't have to repeat yourself. "I prefer short answers." "My company is Acme." "Always use British English." These are your Memories, and they apply across all your Sapience agents.

The Manage Memories window lets you see everything that's been remembered and stay in control of it — review it, edit it, or delete anything you don't want kept.

Opening Manage Memories

There are two ways in — both open the same window:

Path
Where
Menu → Manage → Memories
The quick one — two clicks from the top menu
Settings → Agent Settings → Manage Memories
The original location, still available

Either opens your full memories list.

What's In There

Each memory is a short, single fact the agents have stored about you, in one of a few flavours:

  • Facts — things that are true about you ("based in Sydney", "works in finance").
  • Preferences — how you like things ("prefers concise answers", "no emojis").
  • Instructions — standing directions ("always include a summary table").

They're shared across all your Sapience agents, so a preference the agents learn in one conversation carries into the next, with any agent.

Staying In Control

The whole point of the window is that your memories are yours to manage. From the list you can review what's been remembered and remove anything that's out of date or that you'd simply rather not keep. If an agent picked up something you don't want carried forward, delete it and it stops being applied.

Memories vs. AGENTS.md

Sapience gives you two ways to shape how agents treat you, and they complement each other:

Memories
Shape
Many small, individual facts
One document you write
How they're created
Agents add them as you chat; you manage the list
You author and edit the file yourself
Best for
Facts that accumulate naturally over time
A deliberate, structured "here's how I want you to work"

Use Memories for the little things agents pick up along the way; use AGENTS.md for the standing operating manual you want to own. (See the AGENTS.md help article for that.)

Good to Know

  • They span every agent. A memory isn't tied to one agent — it applies across all your Sapience agents.
  • You can prune anytime. Open the window whenever you want to review or clean up what's remembered.
  • Two doors, one room. Menu → Manage → Memories and Settings → Agent Settings → Manage Memories open the same list.

Summary

Memories are the facts, preferences, and instructions Sapience agents remember about you so you don't have to repeat yourself — and they apply across every agent. Open Menu → Manage → Memories (or Settings → Agent Settings) to review the list and delete anything you don't want kept. For a deliberate, self-authored set of instructions, use AGENTS.md alongside it.
